Special Investigations

Retinal Photography

This takes an instant photograph of the back of the eye which is stored on our computer and allows us to detect any changes from one visit to the next. We can also have a more detailed inspection of the most important central area of the retina.

Peripheral Visual Field Assessment

This detects any abnormalities of your peripheral vision which can be an early indication of early glaucoma. In some cases a more in depth screening is offered.

Dyslexia Assessment

Many children and young people who are considered to have behaviour & reading difficulties and / or have been excluded from school may benefit from coloured overlays and lenses.
Some people experience distortions when they look at certain materials, particularly text. The distortions of text include blurring, movement of letters, word doubling, shadowy lines, shapes or colours on the page and flickering.

Coloured overlays are sheets of translucent or transparent coloured plastic that are placed over a page of a book as to colour the text beneath without interfering with its clarity.
Coloured overlays and lenses reduce the distortions of the text and can help people to read better and more quickly.

Tear Duct Syringing

Patients having problems with watery eyes may be suffering from blocked tear ducts. If this is the case, we can insert a syringe into the tear duct to see if we can clear the blockage.

DVLA Screening

This is a test we perform on behalf of the Driving Licensing Agency. The DVLA can call for you to have this test done for a variety of reasons, it is to check that your vision is at the required standard for you to be driving.

VDU Screening

This is a screening for patients who use computers for the majority of their work. If required, spectacle lens technology now allows us to provide you with the ability to see clearly at any working distance, together with anti-reflective coatings for extra visual comfort. This test is often requested by employers.
